Helping their clients attain their life goals is the central philosophy behind the advisory team at Assante Quebec. Now they’ve found a way to help student athletes at the University of Sherbrooke achieve success with the Serge Savard Invitational Golf Tournament.

The tournament took place on August 19 at the Islemere Golf Club in Laval, Quebec and brought in over $350,000 for the Serge Savard Fund. The Serge Savard Fund was created to provide bursaries to students with high academic standards and who are engaged in athletics at the University of Sherbrook. Heading up the event was Assante Quebec’s own Peter Pomponio, Managing Director at Assante Capital Management Ltd., alongside Serge Savard, Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup champion and president of the fund. Several other former NHL players participated, including Larry Robinson, Bob Gainey, Guy Lapointe, Jacques Lemaire and Gerry Cheevers.

CI Assante Wealth Management had additional representation from President Sean Etherington and Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer Bob Dorrell, demonstrating the commitment across the organization to support educational and local community initiatives.

“It was an honour for Assante Quebec to partner with the University of Sherbrooke and our spokesperson Serge Savard for a fabulous day of golf,” said Peter. “This was the first event of its kind for the university and will certainly not be the last.”

“We were equally excited at the announcement that the foundation would benefit students not just financially, but also through a mentorship program. A special thank you to everyone at Assante, advisors across Quebec and our clients for your incredible support.”

The $350,000 raised from the golf tournament has brought fund’s total to $1.4 million of Serge’s $5 million goal. As funding continues to grow, Serge and Assante Quebec hope to help the Serge Savard Fund in its mission to support the development of athletes at the University of Sherbrooke.
