Darren Arrowsmith, MBA, CFA
Darren Arrowsmith, Vice-President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, started his career as a member of Scotia Capital’s fixed income team. Since then, he has brought over 25 years of industry experience to his role at CI GAM. Having joined in 2012, Darren is a high yield portfolio manager managing bonds, loans, and convertibles with sector specialties in cable, telecommunication, media, airlines & lessors, and financials. He is also the Co-lead portfolio manager on the CI Floating Rate Income Fund. Prior to CI GAM, Darren was a high yield portfolio manager at Stanton Asset Management in Montreal, and before that, he was a credit analyst & trader at GE Capital in London, UK. Darren holds the CFA designation, a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Business Administration from University of Edinburgh Business School.
Brad Benson, MSc
Brad Benson, Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, has over 22 years of industry experience and is responsible for high yield bonds, convertible bonds, and leveraged loans. Prior to joining CI GAM in 2007, Brad worked at CPP Investment Board in the Principal Investing Group. Before that, he held a role at RBC Capital Markets in the mergers and acquisitions department. Brad holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Honors) from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Science in Finance from the London Business School.
Fernanda Fenton, MBA, CFA
Fernanda Fenton, Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, brings over 11 years of investment management experience, with over 15 years in the financial services industry, to her role. At CI GAM, Fernanda is a portfolio manager specializing in global interest rates and emerging markets fixed income. Before CI GAM, Fernanda was an associate portfolio manager at another Canadian asset manager. Prior to that, she spent six years in Latin America debt capital markets and investment banking at Credit Suisse in New York. Fernanda is a CFA charterholder, holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México in Mexico City.
Lee Goldman, MBA, CFA
Lee Goldman, Senior Vice-President, Portfolio Manager – Equities, brings over 30 years of valuable industry experience to CI GAM and his team. At CI GAM, he is primarily responsible for real estate mandates and convertible bonds. Lee joined CI GAM in 2015 after CI acquired First Asset, which he joined in 2006. Before CI GAM, Lee was the Vice-President, Treasury for M.R.S. Trust Company (a division of Mackenzie Financial), where he was responsible for financing the company’s various loan portfolios, including balance sheet and securitization. Lee also managed a fixed income fund called the Mackenzie Mortgage Fund. Lee holds a Bachelor of Science from Western University, a Master of Business Administration from York University, and is a CFA charterholder. In his spare time, he is a volunteer tutor with Pathways to Education.
Geof Marshall, CFA
Geof Marshall, SVP, Head of Fixed Income & Lead – Private Markets, joined CI GAM in 2006 and leads the fixed income team and private markets group. Geof is also the lead manager on CI GAM’s income strategies and co-manages the private markets and income & growth funds as well as a number of multi-asset fixed income portfolios. He brings over 25 years of valued industry experience to his role at CI GAM, especially in asset allocation and analyzing, managing, and trading corporate bonds, leveraged loans, and private credit. Prior to CI GAM, Geof was a portfolio manager at Manulife Financial. Geof is a CFA charterholder with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. He is also a member of the CFA Society Toronto and chairs the Investment Committee at the Royal Ontario Museum where he also serves on the Board of Governors.
Leanne Ongaro, CFA
Leanne Ongaro, Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, began her career with CI in 2004, joining the CI GAM portfolio management team in 2007. She is responsible for investment-grade fixed income assets, focusing on corporate bonds and preferred shares. Leanne holds the CFA designation and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto.
John Shaw, CFA
John Shaw, Senior Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, began his career in 1990 and leads the fixed income group’s investment grade and preferred share team. John manages and co-manages numerous award-winning fixed income, balanced, income and growth, and dividend strategies. He brings over 30 years of valued global industry experience to his role at CI GAM, especially in asset allocation as well as portfolio management, analysis, and trading of corporate bonds and preferred shares. Prior to joining CI Global Asset Management in 2004, he worked at Canada Life Assurance for 13 years, including 3 years in London, England, working in the US and UK investment grade market.
John holds the Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Management (FRM) designation and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Queen’s University. He is also a member of the CFA Society Toronto and Canadian Bond Investors Association.
Grant Connor, JD, MBA
Grant Connor, Vice-President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, joined CI GAM in 2013. He currently assists with the management of CI GAM’s Core and Core Plus. Prior to CI GAM, Grant worked at National Bank Financial as an Associate Analyst covering Canadian Financials. Before that, he worked as an Associate Analyst in Structured Finance at Moody’s Canada. Grant brings 15 years of industry experience to his role, holds a CIM designation, and an MBA and Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Toronto.
Derek Tucker, Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, joined CI GAM in 2011 and brings over 22 years of experience to his role. Derek is responsible for fixed income investment grade credit and assists in the security selection and portfolio management of the various investment grade credit mandates. Prior to CI GAM, he worked at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) in the Risk Management Credit Group. Derek holds the CFA designation, a BBA from Bishop’s University, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
Simona DeStefano, Vice President, Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, joined CI GAM in 2017. With over 20 years of industry experience, she is responsible for high yield bonds, convertible bonds, and leveraged loan assets focused on the healthcare, gaming, lodging, homebuilding and real estate industries. Prior to joining CI GAM, Simona was an associate director in US corporate banking at Scotiabank. Before that, she was a director in credit risk Control at UBS, and prior to that, she was a senior associate in the leveraged finance group at Moody’s Investor Service. Simona holds a CIM designation and a Bachelor of Business Administration with High Honors in Banking and Finance from Hofstra University – Frank G. Zarb School of Business.
